Tara Granzien, Business Manager – RISE Ventures

Q. How long have you been working with RISE Ventures?

I’ve been working for RISE Ventures for 5 years.

Q. What inspired you to pursue your current career or business?

I’m very passionate about the town I live in and being able to support tour community members and assist them to achieve their goals I get a real buzz when we can help change our participants’ lives and go with them on their employment journey.

Q. When you started with the business what was your role? How has it changed over time?

I was the CDP Coordinator for about 3mths then I applied for the BM role and was successful.

When I first started upper management had concerns about my capacity to fulfil the role because the role was traditionally designed for a male. In a very short timeframe I gained full respect from my team within days of starting my team were all men and some had worked for my father over the years.

Q4. How do you feel supported as a woman in your career with us?

A. I feel fully supported by upper management in my role, I’m also mentored and guided by my management team.

Q. How does supporting women in training and jobs impact the community you live and work in?

A. It enables personal and professional development and growth.

Q6. How can companies and organizations better support and promote gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace?

A. Provide our staff and managers with unconscious-bias training – we all have different perspectives so enhanced collaboration would ensure a better workplace.

Q7. What’s one piece of advice you would you give to young women who are just starting their careers or businesses?

A. Take advantage of on-the-job training to learn as much as you can, ask questions to get to know people across the organisation, and be willing to take on certain tasks that may take you out of your comfort zone.  This is how you build trust and relationships with your management team and fellow employees.

A big thank you to Tara for her time and sharing her advice and experience with us.
