Here’s your Kowanyama community update for March!

We’ve been busy this month! Get an update on our Men’s and Women’s Meeting Places, Youth Grove and Digital Hub.  

We’re also celebrating 13 community members who are transitioning into employment with the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council. Congratulations – the team is proud of you! 

 

Men’s Meeting Place 

In the Men Meeting Place, we have ten guys from our new trial program who are ready to transition into employment with the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council.  

The men have shown their commitment and the changes we have seen in them since they started have been huge!  

The hub has also enabled our job seekers to gain skills that have helped them break down barriers to employment. This will lead to more opportunities in their futures! 

 

Women’s Meeting Place 

We have three of our ladies in the Women’s Meeting Place who are locked and loaded to start employment with the Council. We’re super proud of them! 

There has also been lots of changes in this hub. The ladies are really enjoying the new activities they’ve been doing and are keen to transition into employment. We’re really proud of all the effort they’ve been putting in! 

The community has also benefitted from buying the wonderful products on offer at the Co-Op shop.  

 

Youth Grove 

Our Youth Groove is ready for the young people in our community to participate in new activities and build their skills for employment! 

We already have some of our youth in the Men’s shed making furniture for the community. They have also been out helping community by cutting grass for elder people and job seekers. This is building their confidence, skills and getting them job ready! 

 

Digital Hub 

Our Digital Hub is ready to go to assist the community with: 

• The MyGov platform 
• Birth certificate applications 
• Blue and Yellow card applications 
• Internet Banking 
• White Card replacement applications 
• Photo Identification Applications 
• Licencing applications and renewals
