Malachi is a young Indigenous man who joined our Indigenous Youth Coaches program in Cairns looking for support to find a career path.
After working with our Youth Coaches, Malachi set a goal of gaining a trade apprenticeship.
We recognised that pre-employment qualifications would increase Malachi’s chances with an employer and got to work to make this happen.
We enrolled Malachi into training with our partner Cairns Truck School.
In February and March, he successfully completed his White Card, Work Safely at Heights, Confined Spaces and Gas Test Atmospheres certificates!
Malachi attended these courses during the day while also completing nightshifts at Dominos! This is a testament to his determination to succeed.
This month, Youth Coach Carly leaned on community connections and was successful in finding Malachi a mechanic apprenticeship with Cairns Cars!
He has seized the opportunity and is now enjoying learning on the job with his new employer.
