Indigenous Youth Coaches

Empowering Indigenous Youth to reach their potential and become leaders in their community.  

 

Indigenous Youth Coaches is for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people aged between 15-24 years old, living in Far North Queensland.  

Our primary focus is youth who are not currently supported by local services. Who are no longer in school or are enrolled but disengaged with their schooling, are not employed and are not receiving a Government Incentive Payment.   

However, we are here for all young people who need someone in their corner.

How we can help you:

  • Goal setting and life coaching 
  • Mental and emotional wellbeing  
  • Connection to culture and Country 
  • Connection to mentors and Indigenous leaders 
  • Referrals to health, addiction recovery, counselling and social services 
  • Money management skills 
  • Driving licenses, government registrations and IDs 
  • Enrolment in education and/or training 
  • Career path planning 
  • Job search, applications and interviews 
  • Workwear and essential work equipment 
  • Creative, athletic or digital pursuits 

Our close network with other local support services, youth programs, and education and training providers means that we can connect any young person to someone who can help them. 

This means no matter where they are along their journey or where they live across Gimuy/Cairns and Cape York, there will be a welcoming and supportive space to succeed.  

Our team includes a Program Coordinator, Social Worker, Job Coach and Youth Coaches.

Indigenous Youth Oasis

Located in Bungalow, Gimuy/Cairns, our Indigenous Youth Oasis is an energising space that cultivates cultural belonging, personal expression, self-worth, respect and ambition.  

Young people can yarn with one of our team, work on their goals, connect with other services, participate in events or have a private wellbeing session.  

Or they can just make a coffee, have a feed and hang out! 

Find us at Cnr 33 Edgar Street and 113 Scott Street, Bungalow, Cairns.  

Our doors are open from 9am-4:30pm,  Monday – Friday (except public holidays)
