Darcy Douglas Is Excited To Be Working For Wages Again
Darcy is part of the Men’s Meeting Place Hub at Rise Ventures Kowanyama and has started work within the trial program. He has been working within the Men’s Meeting Place Hub as a labourer and is excited to be working for wages again.
He enjoys being out and about in community all day, cutting grass for locals and building furniture in the men’s trade shed. Darcy has made a big difference since he started with the TPRJ program and is very skilled at woodwork. He also has many great ideas to build furniture that we can sell in the co-op shop.
Darcy has been working hard to show his commitment to his position and loves the group work where he can laugh and joke with the boys. The trial has allowed Darcy to create a steady work routine with support and mentoring to transition to his next step of working within the council.

Annabell is part of the Women’s Meeting Place and shares why she enjoys it and an exciting employment opportunity!
“I have been enjoying my time within the Women’s Meeting Place and have been able to further myself with the support and mentoring the hub has provided. I have learnt new skills which help me at home and which I think I could do a small business with for the community.”
“I am currently on wages within the trial with RISE and now just today I have been assisted by RISE to attend a job interview with Act For Kids. I am pretty sure I will be successful with the job and am excited to be able to have this opportunity!”
Gasson Teddy Embraces Teamwork At The Men’s Meeting Hub
Gasson Teddy is a member of our Men’s Meeting Place Hub. Being part of the Hub has allowed Gasson to communicate more with other employees, learn how to work within a team and solve problems as a group. This has been a big change for him as he preferred to work alone before being employed by RISE.
Gasson told us that it’s been going well and he’s enjoying his time at the Hub.
Darren, our Supervisor, said that he has seen a huge difference in Gasson and is impressed that he is not afraid of asking questions to learn more about each task.
Shardelle Gets Creative At The Women’s Meeting Place
Shandelle is part of our Women’s Meeting Place and loves attending every day. She especially enjoys coming up with new ideas for things to create with the other women who attend.
“My every day at the Women Place is enjoyable, there are different activities during the weekdays that we have. There is also good communication between us ladies. I have enjoyed being here because the facilities are great, and the supervisors are polite and caring which makes me feel comfortable. I’m enjoying my job and I know that I have been improving my skills within this activity.”
“The Women Meeting Place is very awesome place to be at!”
