Army have commenced work in the Pormpuraaw region, starting with building an Independent Living Facility and Men’s Shed. Two local community members have commenced work on the project and another four will start at a later date.  From the 28th of June, community members will commence training in a variety of skills.

The Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Programme (AACAP) works with Indigenous peoples in northern and central Australia to do engineering works and also deliver employability skills programs.

The building projects are due to be finished and handed over to Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council in October 2021. The Independent Living Facility and a Men’s Shed will be great new additions to our community and we are excited to welcome the Army to our region.

The project opens up 56 spots for community members to get skills and training in:

  • Heavy machinery
  • Maintenance and Construction
  • Hospitality
  • First Aid
  • Photography

There are a few spots left, so if you would like to apply, please contact the Rise Office.
