Certificate III in Surface Extraction course commenced in Chillagoe with the support of Chillagoe Alliance, Mareeba Shire Council, CDP provider Jobfind and Ascent Training with 20 willing participants eager to learn new skills in Surface Extraction for upcoming jobs in the South of Emberley mine (Bauxite) and Mt Molloy mine (Copper).
The course was combined with participants from the Dimbulah township and surrounding areas via our Jobfind bus which otherwise would miss out on training opportunities due to geographical isolation, limited internet communications, and transport barriers.
The practical components of the course benefit the Chillagoe township by providing a levelled driveway adjacent to the Chillagoe hospital, general tidy-up to improve the appearance of the Chillagoe tourist caravan park and hospital area, level and posthole digging at the Chillagoe Railway, and an excavation of a swimming pool for tourist and locals to enjoy (pool has since been completed by the Chillagoe tourist caravan park).
All but one participant completed the course and a graduation was held last month to commemorate their achievements.
