We recently had a Pine Creek Aboriginal Advancement Association meeting where the community unanimously voted in favour of CDP Activities recommencing as soon as possible. The community was very outspoken in that they needed help to get things back to how they were prior to the COVID-19 closures. They asked for help to get the community looking good again and were wanting something to give the residents meaning, direction and support.
On Monday 24th August, activities were recommenced and the following day we had 5 ladies in attendance as well as a man to help clean the community up for an upcoming funeral.
The Kybrook ladies were so excited to be able to come back to their activity. Half-finished art works lay at their workstations exactly how they had left them several months ago. After the morning Toolbox Meeting where we walked about social distancing and the hygiene processes in place, everyone sanitised and were was back to it. The jobseekers even participated in making the premises COVID-19 safe by putting on posters to remind people to be compliant.
Over the past few months, the Kybrook Men’s Activity have been working with the EON Foundation and its employees to construct a community garden to supply the community with fresh veggies.
Up until the COVID-19 closure the team have installed reticulation and garden beds and planted pumpkins and chilli plants.
Construction has also begun on extending the garden shed into a green-house to raise the seedlings for further planting.
It was very hard ground but the team all pitched in to get the task done.
Plans are also in place to construct a fence around the gardens when the activities open back up again and we cannot wait to dig in when the restrictions are lifted.
